On the east-west oriented beach you face south as you look out to the sea.  Sunset Beach's shoreline is one of the widest on the east coast and is actually one of the very few growing wider over time.  The sand is among the softest and best in the world for making castles, attracting sand sculptors from all over the country.  Enjoy a walk to the public fishing pier, or ride a bike to Bird Island and the Kindred Spirit mailbox, or just watch the dolphins jumping in the waves, pelicans diving for their next meal, or baby loggerhead sea turtles  scrambling to the splashing surf.  These are just a few of the many things guaranteed to entertain, educate, rejeuvenate  and make you want to return.
